She is a former schoolteacher convicted in 1997 of the statutory rape of one of her students, a 13-year old boy, with whom the then-married mother of four had a longtime extramarital affair during the boy's teenage years.

She gave birth to two children by her underage lover and the couple married in 2005, after he became an adult and she spent several years in prison and divorced her first husband. Her notoriety has turned her into a touchstone cultural reference and has spawned a number of television specials about her. She is also the daughter of former prominent conservative political figure, John G. Schmitz, whose political career effectively ended due to his own teacher-student sex scandal, revealed in 1982, when the former political science professor admitted to having a longtime, extramarital affair with one of his former college students, with whom he had fathered two children out-of-wedlock.

Personally, I am very concerned with the case of rape of children under age, especially now that the victim was not only girls but also the male child.
